On November 18, 1803, under the leadership of General Jean-Jacques Dessalines, La Bateille De Vertieres began in the north-western part of the country near one of its major cities Cap-Haitien (old name Cap-Francais). The French General, Rochembeau, signed a decree giving Cap-Francais to the great General Dessalines on November 19, 1802. The result of the fight is the end of slavery in Haiti.
